Towers of London -
This band have certainly rubbed people up the wrong way. In a flurry of flouncing poodle hair,
grubby vests and too tight pants, they've managed to grind the rock dumbness of Motley Crue
with the ramalama raw power of the Sex Pistols."We're big Pistols fan as well as Motley Crue
and Guns 'n' Roses. I like the Clash as well - it's British punk we're into - not the glammed up
Americans. We want to be low down and dirty British punk with the flare of American bands,"
It's a potent brew and one that the indie snobs hate.
The first time I saw the Towers of London, someone threw a pint pot at them and frontman
Donny Tourette (Celebrity Big Brother 2007) ran into the crowd, fists flailing. Donny is only a skinny fuck but he had adrenaline
and surprise on his side and the attacker backed off. Guitarman The Rev ponders. "When I go
onstage I'm in my own little world whilst Donny spends up to 90 per cent of time not being on the
stage at all. He's standing on the speaker stacks, the lighting rack, jumping in the crowd. One of
his favourite stage pieces is getting people involved. We are not a shoe gazing band. We like to
get the audience involved."
Their first UK tour has been a blur of stomping anthems, confused crowds and broken equipment.
There will be plenty more of this kind of action for them. Run-ins with the law and disgruntled music
bores hating them - Towers are up for a bit of argy bargy. Fighting their own rock 'n' roll war, Towers
of London are an adrenalised punk rock crew facing off the indie elite. After the release of their debut
single 'On A Noose' and follow up track 'Fuck it up', they could end up as a Darkness style huge rock
act, or crash and burn and end up being the new Parkinsons. Either way it won't be boring.
